ArcGIS Pro will be used in most professional environments. QGIS and scripted GIS found in R/Python will be more used in research environments, especially when they are grant funded. IMO, it doesnt matter what you are learning now because your learning how to GIS. Once you know workflows that need to happen, navigating the gui is all about googling.
Arcgis pro is the only software available now. ArcMap and arc catalog are no longer developed and support is going away in just over a year. There is a cartography course for free right now which gives you a copy of pro for free while the course is running. Google mooc esri cartography. It's a way to learn the new software.
