SC Heerenveen was a founding member of the Vrouwen Eredivisie in 2007 and one of three clubs, along with FC Twente and ADO Den Haag, to field a team in the Eredivisie or BeNe League in every season. The club won the first-ever Eredivisie match, spoiling FC Twente's debut at the Arke Stadion , 3–2.

Opening ceremony (29-09-2007) Opening match, FC Twente vs. SC Heerenveen (29-09-2007) On 29 August 2007, the opening ceremony for the launch of the Eredivisie Vrouwen took place at the Arke Stadion in Enschede, with the presentation of the six participating teams, ahead of the league's inaugural match played by FC Twente and sc Heerenveen in front of 5.500 spectators.
