[3] Located roughly 26 miles (41.8 km) northwest of downtown Detroit, Pontiac is part of the Detroit metropolitan area, and is variously described as a satellite city or suburb of Detroit.
Oakland County itself is a prime example of the land policy that was established, as all townships are equal in size (save for slight variations due to waterways). Changes made in the Pontiac area moved US 10 to the former routing of M-58. The former highway through town was redesignated as Bus. US 10.
