T-80UE (1999) – Export version of the T-80U with some of the equipment from the T-80UK (including the TShU-1-7 Shtora electro-optical countermeasures system). Unlike the T-80U it does not have the anti-aircraft heavy machine gun mounted on the commander's cupola, instead it has pintle mounts at the four corners of the turret allowing its ...
T-80UE-1: Not to be confused with the attempted export version T-80UE, this version is made by mating T-80UD turret with T-80BV hull (with some improvements to bring the hull to T-80U level, as Kontakt-5 ERA for example). T-80UM (1995): Russian version, with new Buran thermal imaging sight in place of the Luna IR. [72]
The unit reached its current configuration in late 2011 when the battalion became fully a reserve component, losing its active duty companies, and 96-hour deployment capability. [1] Until 2022, the unit was subordinated to MIRC's National Intelligence Support Group, whose units primarily support uncommon or one-off missions.
The following is a list of ammunition fired by the 125 mm smoothbore gun series used in the T-64, T-72, T-80, M-84, T-90, PT-91, T-14 Armata, and other tanks derived from those designs, as well as the 2A45 Sprut anti-tank gun.
The chassis was that of the T-80U with a T-80BV turret that was up-gunned to a 152.4 smoothbore gun. The new gun had the same chamber diameter as the 152mm but was much longer. Anti-tank capacity was improved in such a way that the tank could potentially engage and destroy any Western tank of the time at battle distance with a single shot.
The increase in defensive capability led to the development of more advanced APFSDS projectiles. Kontakt-5 was first observed on a T-80U in 1985. Later, the T-72B, T-84 and T-90 tanks were also equipped with Kontakt-5. In addition, the T-55, T-62 and BMP-3 tank models can also be equipped or upgraded with Kontakt-5.
Kontakt-1 on the upper glacis and turret of a T-80BV. Kontakt-1 (Russian: Контакт-1; GRAU indice: 4S20) is an explosive reactive armour (ERA) created in 1982 by Soviet NII Stali to protect tanks from shaped charges. The first tank with Kontakt-1 put into service was T-64BV in 1985.
A mock-up of the Black Eagle was first demonstrated at the VTTV arms exposition in Omsk, in September 1997, making a single brief pass, far from the reviewing stands. The tank appeared to be an elongated T-80U hull topped by a very large turret and gun, obscured by camouflage netting and canvas. The turret was later found out to be a crude mock-up.
