Zellers was a Canadian discount store chain founded by Walter P. Zeller in 1931. It was acquired by the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) in 1978, and after a series of acquisitions and expansions, peaked with 350 locations in 1999. [2]
Kmart closed this location in 1998. In 2013, the mall featured one of only three remaining Zellers-branded department stores still operating in the country, with plans for the brand to continue as a crossover with Hudson's Bay. [2] In June 2014, First Capital announced that the Zellers store would close and be replaced by another retailer. [3]

In 2011 a number of smaller stores combined to create space for a new Sport Chek location. As part of its acquisition of 39 Zellers stores, in September 2011, Walmart Canada announced that the Zellers location would become a Walmart Supercentre following renovations to be completed in 2012.

Converted to Zellers in 1991. The store converted to Walmart in 2012 as part of 39 Zellers leases sold by Target to Walmart Canada. New Minas (Gardens Mall) Converted to Zellers in 1991. The store was also paired with an IGA grocery store. With the takeover of Towers; Zellers continued operating the two locations during the 1990s.
