The second largest of the Communities in Norfolk County, Ontario, Port Dover had a population of 7,871 at the time of the 2021 Census.This is an increase of 12.7% over the population of 6,984 in 2016.
King's Highway 6, commonly referred to as Highway 6, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario.It crosses a distance of 480 km (300 mi) between Port Dover, on the northern shore of Lake Erie, and Espanola, on the northern shore of Lake Huron, before ending at the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 17) in McKerrow.
The village was served by the Port Dover & Lake Huron Railway and a more substantial harbor had been completed. Records indicate that businesses include a foundry, many stores, a newspaper, wagon and carriage makers, and a busy school house. [3] Port Dover became an incorporated village in 1879.
1904 – The Eliza Allan was sold; becoming the last schooner to be manufactured in Port Dover. [5] 1914 – Port Dover Public School was built and was opened. August 1914 – Port Dover's bravest young men join the Royal Canadian Armed Forces to fight in World War I. April 11, 1915 – Former Canadian politician Eddie Sargent was born.
Just north of Lake Erie, Highway 3 turns east and travels straight towards Port Colborne, passing just south of the Wainfleet Bog. At Townline Road, the boundary between Wainfleet and Port Colborne, the central section ends and the roadway continues as Niagara Regional Road 3 through the city, meeting the southern end of Highway 58.
