Costas Taktsís' father, Grigórios, and his mother Eli were from Eastern Rumelia, a region of Thrace now part of Bulgaria. At the age of seven, after the separation from his parents, young Costas was sent to Athens to live with his grandmother. The poem was originally written in 1947 by the non-Native author Elliott Arnold in his Western novel Blood Brother. "Vespers" is a poem by the British author A.A. Milne, first published in 1923 by the American magazine Vanity Fair, and later included in the 1924 book of Milne's poems When We Were Very Young when it was accompanied by two illustrations by E.H. Shephard. It was written about the "Christopher Robin" persona of Milne's son Christopher Robin Milne.
