The Queen Sirikit Cup, officially the Asia-Pacific Amateur Ladies Golf Team Championship, is an annual amateur team golf championship for women organised by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation. The inaugural event was held in 1979.
She represented New Zealand at the World Women's Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy twice, and was the individual winner at the 1993 Asia-Pacific Amateur Ladies Golf Team Championship for the Queen Sirikit Cup. [3]
Sirikit [a] [1] (born Mom Rajawongse Sirikit Kitiyakara [b]; 12 August 1932) is a member of the Thai royal family who was Queen of Thailand from 28 April 1950 to 13 October 2016 as the wife of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX).
In February 2023, she represent India in the Queen Sirikit Cup with the team finishing second to South Korean and Prashanth winning the individual event. In May, she finished first in the selection trials for the Asian Games.
The inaugural Asian Amateur Golf Team Championship was held 1963 in the Philippines, with a trophy donated by Shun Nomura that became known as the Nomura Cup, and the Amateur Golf Confederation of Asia was formed. [1] The R&A started to help the APGC in 2002 when they offered to provide financial support for running the Nomura Cup. [1]
She finished 3rd in both the Queen Sirikit Cup on home turf in the Philippines and at the Royal Junior in Japan. She represented the Philippines in both the Asian Games in China and the Women's World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy in Abu Dhabi.
She was also the individual winner of the 1991 Queen Sirikit Cup. [3] She played college golf at Oklahoma State where she was an All-American in 1990. [4] While at Oklahoma State, she was diagnosed with malignant melanoma which led her to compete wearing long-sleeved shirts, a big floppy hat, and long slacks. [5]
Bennett represented Australia at the 2022 Espirito Santo Trophy at Le Golf National in Paris, and at the 2022 Asia-Pacific Amateur Ladies Golf Team Championship for the Queen Sirikit Cup in Singapore. [4]
