Audio power is the electrical power transferred from an audio amplifier to a loudspeaker, measured in watts. The electrical power delivered to the loudspeaker, together with its efficiency , determines the sound power generated (with the rest of the electrical power being converted to heat).
The system is arranged in such a way that the outputs from the amplifiers are inverted with respect to each other. In other words, as the signal in one amplifier is swinging positively, the signal in the other is swinging negatively. When the output of one amplifier is at +10 volts the output of the other will be at −10 volts, and vice versa.
In most amplifiers a reduction in gain takes place before hard clipping occurs; the result is a compression effect, which (if the amplifier is an audio amplifier) sounds much less unpleasant to the ear. For these amplifiers, the 1 dB compression point is defined as the input power (or output power) where the gain is 1 dB less than the small ...
Music power has been making a comeback in recent years. See also Audio power. Power specifications require the load impedance to be specified, and in some cases two figures will be given (for instance, the output power of a power amplifier for loudspeakers will be typically measured at 4 and 8 ohms). To deliver maximum power to the load, the ...
From the efficiency, we may calculate sensitivity, which is the sound pressure level a speaker produces for a given input: A speaker with an efficiency of 100% (1.0) would output a watt for every watt of input.
The actual electric power may vary from about twice the nominal power down to less than one tenth. Loudspeaker efficiency is measured with respect to nominal power in order to emulate the situation outlined above where a low internal impedance amplifier is used with a loudspeaker. The convention is to supply one nominal watt during testing.

The voltage is constant only in the sense that at full power, the voltage in the system does not depend on the number of speakers driven (as long the amplifier's maximum power is not exceeded). [2] Constant-voltage speaker systems are also commonly referred to as 25- , 70- , 70.7- , 100 or 210-volt speaker systems ; distributed speaker systems ...
