State Highway 286 (SH 286) is a Texas state highway running from downtown Corpus Christi south to Chapman Ranch. The route was designated on its current route in 1939. Before 1939, this route was known as SH 96, and was proposed to be extended to the southwest to Riviera. It is also locally known as the "Crosstown Expressway." [2]
Avalon is primarily a farming community located at the intersection of FM 55 & TX Hwy 34 in southern Ellis County. Avalon still operates one of the county's few cotton gins. Near Avalon, the highway turns to the northeast and runs through the community of Bardwell before crossing Lake Bardwell. After crossing the lake, SH 34 enters Ennis and intersects US 287 . The highway shares overlaps with the business routes of I-45 and US 287 in the city and leaves the city after intersecting I-45 .
Avalon High School or Avalon School is a public high school located in the unincorporated community of Avalon, Texas, USA and classified as a 1A school by the UIL. It is a part of the Avalon Independent School District located in southeastern Ellis County. Avalon School was awarded National Blue Ribbon School status in 2014. [2]
