Charles Leich and Company is a historic factory building located in downtown Evansville, Indiana. It was built in 1887, and is a four-story, brick building. [ 2 ] : Part 1, p. 24 The building was originally built for the Evansville Woolen Mill, and Charles Leich and Company acquired it in 1914.
The other contributing resources are the St. Louis Academy (1915), St. Louis Convent House (1915), garage (1940), and Old St. Louis Cemetery. [2] The church was refurbished and painted in 1998. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. [1]
In the 1840s Fendrich brothers Joseph, Karl (Charles), Franz (Francis) and Herrmann started the tobacco and cigar business. In 1855 the company headquarters moved to 21 Main St. in Evansville. New factory complex opened in 1912, and Fendrich Cigar Company had around 1,500 employees at that time.
