"Woody Interruptus" is the twelfth episode of Cheers ' s ninth season. It first aired on NBC in the United States on December 13, 1990. [1] In the episode, Kelly returns from France with a male friend who says he's going to steal her from Woody.
Woody arrived at Cheers expecting to meet his "pen pal" Coach, with whom he exchanged pens instead of letters. Upon learning of Coach's death, he filled the open bartender position, and was quickly accepted by the staff and regulars. He also developed a "big brother/little brother" relationship with Sam Malone, the owner of Cheers
