Owen County is a county located in the northern part of the U.S. state of Kentucky.Its county seat is Owenton. [1] The county is named for Colonel Abraham Owen. [2] It is a prohibition or dry county, with the exception of a winery that is authorized to sell its product to the public, [3] and limited sales within the incorporated city limits of Owenton.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 159 square miles (410 km 2), of which 151 square miles (390 km 2) is land and 8.1 square miles (21 km 2) (5.1%) is water. [9] It is the fourth-smallest county in Kentucky by land area and fifth-smallest by total area. It lies along the Ohio and Licking Rivers.
