Covington Holmes Junior/Senior High School in Covington, Kentucky, is the oldest public high school in Kentucky, founded as Covington Central High in 1853. It is a vital part of the Covington Independent Public Schools. Its boundary includes much of Covington (to the north) and portions of Kenton Vale and Fort Wright. [2]
Kenton County was created in 1805 as Kentucky's 90th county. It was named after pioneer, Simon Kenton. [2] The first free public school in Kenton County was in Covington was established in 1820.
Gateway enrolls over 5,000 students. The college provides transfer and career education and training and offers more than 200 associate degrees, diplomas and certificates in 30 subject areas. Classes are provided at three Gateway locations in Boone County, Covington, and Edgewood.

In addition to the above schools, one school located in Tennessee is a member of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, the state's governing body for high school sports. Fort Campbell High School is located in the Tennessee portion of the Fort Campbell Army base, but has always competed against Kentucky schools.
