My 2014 Nissan Altima SL gets very good highway mileage as it has ~33k on it now. Use regular gas but have switched over to 0-W20 wherever I can find it as many dealerships and auto centers do NOT carry it! The car computer mileage shows ~38-44mpg so I'm averaging ~40mpg Highway while Mixed driving shows ~32mpg while city driving ~28-32mpg.
Just the other day i took a trip up north on the NYS thruway and got amazing gas mileage for the speed i was going. I average 32+mpg going 80-100(everybody was flying) M.P.H and on the way back averaged 35+ going 70-72. Iv'e already put 17,000 miles on the car and it's only 5 months old so the good gas mileage is a plus.
You're right waltchan, Nissan IS done, if they don't change their ways. The 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5S seems to be proof of that. There are more reports every day of the Catalytic Converters failing, engines burning lots of oil and engines needing to be replaced. Just look over in the Edmunds Nissan Altima Engine Failures Forum.
I am trying to find a reliable truck with as good gas mileage as possible that can tow a maximum 5,500 lbs hard sided (not fold-down) travel trailer (that's the GVWR fully loaded up + 2 passengers) without overtaxing the engine going up hill and while still getting decent gas mileage towing and around town (particularly around town).
I'm looking for an economical way to change the oil on my 2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid, I actually bought it in April, new. I don't want to risk anything with the warranty by not doing the oil changes frequently. So I'm actually going to do the 3 month scheduled oil changes, even though I'm anticipate being nowhere close to the mileage suggestions.
What I like about the Altima hybrid is that it will blow the doors off a Prius, Accord, Camry, Civic and so on. The 35-41 real life MPG in the city saves a lot of people a ton of money, and they do not have to compromise. Best of all, the Altima Hybrid qualifies for the Tax credit of $2350 - Honda and Toyota's get nothing now.
This car is a great car. The CVT is very responsive, the interior is nice on the S and wonderful on the SL, the ride is very sporty, responsive, and comfortable, and the car gets great gas mileage for the power it puts out. People need to stop complaining. Either enjoy the car or trade it for something else.
There are some new cars coming out within the next year or so that can reach 230 - 300 miles per gallon.
My 2007 3.5 SE with 3,000 miles got 24.3 MPG on its last tank neck-to-neck after driving just 222 miles--mostly highway using the AC.
The Nissan dealership was willing to make a deal on the Altima but it really wasn't so much as price since I could have easily afforded the Altima even at the sticker price. I just liked the Sonata more. It was more quiet on the freeway, got better gas mileage on regular unleaded, and was just as comfortable and spacious as the Altima.
