The hostel was called Epworth House. Six boarder girls and fifteen day-girls, together with the new boys, joined the 175 (approximately) boys to increase the number to 311 in 1914 who joined in September of 1911. Right up to the 1940s co-education was narrowly interpreted and strictly supervised.
The junior section of the school, which hived off as Kimberley Boys' Junior School in 1970, subsequently simply Kimberley Junior School, was served by a hostel known as Dugmore House. Leslie Moult who was hostel superintendent was also first headmaster of Kimberley Boys' Junior School. The senior hostel was Francis Oats House.
All hostel boys belong to Beswick House, a name taken from the school's fourth headmaster. Originally, Whitson House was the first hostel of the school and was built in 1904. It was later renamed Connaught House. In 1932, this hostel was closed leading to the later opening of hostels Athlone and De Vos Malan in 1939.
