The land of Merced Manor was incorporated into the Rancho Laguna de la Merced, a one-half-square-league territory which, in 1835, was granted to José Antonio Galindo, corporal in El Presidio Real de San Francisco militia in Alta California. Galindo did little to develop the land and sold it in 1837 to Francisco de Haro (1792–1849).
The site, along Sloat Boulevard between 19th and 34th Avenues about two miles (3 km) south of the Golden Gate Park, was donated to the city in 1931 by Rosalie Meyer Stern. [1] She was the daughter of Marc Eugene Meyer , who named the park for her late husband Sigmund Stern , a philanthropist, nephew of Levi Strauss , and son of David Stern .
The Jewish Community Center of San Francisco is on California Street at Presidio Avenue in Presidio Heights. The primary commercial avenues are Judah, Noriega, and Taraval. The Outer Sunset is the foggiest section in San Francisco due to its close proximity to Ocean Beach.
