Caddo Parish (French: Paroisse de Caddo) (/ ˈ k æ d oʊ /) is a parish located in the northwestern corner of the U.S. state of Louisiana. According to the 2020 U.S. census, the parish had a population of 237,848. [1] The parish seat and largest city is Shreveport, which developed along the Red River. [2]
There are 69 properties and districts listed on the National Register in the parish, including 2 National Historic Landmarks. Four properties were once listed, but have since been removed. One listing, the Caddo Parish Confederate Monument, was originally listed in Caddo Parish but has since been relocated to De Soto Parish.
In 1838, Caddo Parish was created from the large Natchitoches Parish and Shreve Town was designated as the parish seat. Shreveport remains the parish seat of Caddo Parish today. On March 20, 1839, the town was incorporated as "Shreveport". [1] Central Fire Station downtown
