The symptoms and signs associated with convergence insufficiency are related to prolonged, visually demanding, near-centered tasks. They may include, but are not limited to, diplopia (double vision), asthenopia (eye strain), transient blurred vision, difficulty sustaining near-visual function, abnormal fatigue, headache, and abnormal postural adaptation, among others.
Hypermetropia: Young hypermetropes use excessive accommodation as a physiological adaptation in the interest of clear vision. Myopia: Young myopes performing excessive near work may also use excessive accommodation in association with excessive convergence. Astigmatism: Astigmatic eye may also be associated with accommodative excess.
A vision disorder is an impairment of the sense of vision. Vision disorder is not the same as an eye disease . Although many vision disorders do have their immediate cause in the eye, there are many other causes that may occur at other locations in the optic pathway.
[2] [7] If the hypermetropia is high, there will be defective vision for both distance and near. [2] People may also experience accommodative dysfunction, binocular dysfunction, amblyopia, and strabismus. [3] Newborns are almost invariably hypermetropic, but it gradually decreases as the newborn gets older. [6] There are many causes for this ...
Suppression of an eye is a subconscious adaptation by a person's brain to eliminate the symptoms of disorders of binocular vision such as strabismus, convergence insufficiency and aniseikonia. The brain can eliminate double vision by ignoring all or part of the image of one of the eyes.
Presbyopia, physiological insufficiency of accommodation due to age related changes in lens (decreased elasticity and increased hardness) and ciliary muscle power is the commonest form of accommodative dysfunction. [50] It will cause gradual decrease in near vision.
Currently there is no treatment for this condition, but, it is usually self limiting. [1] Systemic administration of corticosteroids may be advised. [2] Even if the disease is resolved, the enlarged blind spot usually does not return to normal. [5]
