Beam's Shell Service Station and Office, also known as C. Grier Beam Truck Museum, is a historic service station located at 117 N. Mountain St. in Cherryville, Gaston County, North Carolina. It was built about 1930 by the Shell Oil Company , and is a one-story, rectangular Mission/spanish Revival style building.
Cherryville is located in Cherryville Township at an elevation of 1,007 feet (307 m). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city covers a total area of 5.50 square miles (14.25 km 2), of which 5.49 square miles (14.22 km 2) is land and 0.012 square miles (0.03 km 2), or 0.21%, is water. [4]
Cherryville Township is a township in northwestern Gaston County, North Carolina, United States.As of the 2010 census it had a population of 16,500. [2] It includes the incorporated city of Cherryville, the inactive incorporated town of Dellview, the unincorporated community of Tryon, and a portion of the town of High Shoals (most of which is in Dallas Township).

One of the earliest grants in the area was given to Captain Samuel Cobrin, commander of a local militia company, on September 29, 1750. [10] Gaston County was founded in 1846, partitioned from Lincoln County. [11] It is named for William Gaston, a U.S. Representative from North Carolina and member of the state supreme court. [12]
It is a two-story and basement brick structure of heavy post and beam construction, using both wood and steel members. It has a raised parapet, topped by tile coping. The building measures 30,000 square feet, and housed a wholesale grocery business. [2] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. [1]
