The first day of classes was May 11, 1858, with grades 1-12, with only four boarders and twenty day students. At this time the school was officially known as Friends Academy. [8] On March 23, 1876 the school officially changed its name to Oakwood Seminary, however the first unofficial reference to the school's name as Oakwood appears in 1863. [8]
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Boys Basketball Championships are held annually to determine the champions of public high schools outside of New York City, though some catholic and independent schools are members as well. The championship games are held each March.

Locust Valley High School is a public high school located in Lattingtown, Nassau County, New York, U.S.A., and is the only high school operated by the Locust Valley Central School District. The school's colors are Hunter (Dartmouth) Green and White. The school crest includes a falcon, and the athletic teams are known as The Falcons.
Friends Academy was founded in 1810 by members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) from New Bedford, Dartmouth, and the surrounding area. It incorporated in 1812. [1] The campus was first located on County Street in New Bedford. It later moved to a building on Morgan Street. The school moved to its current Dartmouth campus in 1949.
