Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends is a children's television series about the engines and other characters working on the railways of the Island of Sodor, and is based on The Railway Series books written by the Reverend W. Awdry. This article lists and details episodes from the sixth series of the show, which was first broadcast in 2002.
Thomas is a locomotive on The Fat Controller's North Western Railway on the Island of Sodor alongside Edward the Blue Engine, Henry the Green Engine, Gordon the Big Engine, James the Red Engine, Percy the Small Engine, Toby the Tram Engine, and many other locomotives. Thomas is based on the LB&SCR E2 class. [1]
He sometimes works on the steam engines himself, [2] and as a young man he drove a steam-powered lorry named Elizabeth. [3] Perceptive and shrewd, he has used elaborate schemes to get to the bottom of a problem. [4] [5] His catchphrases are "You are a really useful engine." when he is proud of his engines and "You have caused confusion and delay!"
The second series (1986) used stories from Book No. 9 (Edward the Blue Engine) to Book No.30 (More About Thomas the Tank Engine). The latter book was unusual, as it was written specifically by Christopher Awdry to be adapted by the show. At that time, it was a contractual obligation that the series could only adapt stories that appeared in print.
The next morning, however, all the diesels take on contaminated fuel and get sick. Thomas is tasked to go around the island and deliver clean fuel to the sick diesels. The Fat Controller congratulates Thomas, calling him a "really useful engine" and a "credit to the railway", and even Diesel has to agree with this.
