RAL is a colour management system used in Europe that is created and administered by the German RAL gGmbH [1] (RAL non-profit LLC), which is a subsidiary of the German RAL Institute . In colloquial speech, RAL refers to the RAL Classic system, mainly used for varnish and powder coating , but now plastics as well.
Some of the colours have templates (e.g. {{NXEA colour}}) which can be used to implement them. If you can't find the desired colour on this page, use {{Temporary rail colour}}; this defaults to black, but another colour value may be given. See here for a list articles currently with temporary colours.

It takes its name from the green international motor racing colour of the United Kingdom. This originated with the 1903 Gordon Bennett Cup, held in Ireland (then still part of the UK), as motor-racing on public roads was illegal in Great Britain. As a mark of respect, the British cars were painted shamrock green.
The colour often appears inaccurately in photographs, generally appearing brighter and bluer than the real colour. In the early years, the colour faded quite badly, becoming lighter and paler with time although this problem had been overcome by the late 1970s. European paint code RAL5020 (Ocean Blue) is a good match to Rail Blue.
