Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen (/ ˈ r ɛ n t ɡ ə n,-dʒ ə n, ˈ r ʌ n t-/; [4] German: [ˈvɪlhɛlm ˈʁœntɡən] ⓘ; anglicized as Roentgen; 27 March 1845 – 10 February 1923) was a German physicist [5] who produced and detected electromagnetic radiation in a wavelength range known as X-rays.
Röntgen discovered X-rays' medical use when he made a picture of his wife's hand on a photographic plate formed due to X-rays. The photograph of his wife's hand was the first ever photograph of a human body part using X-rays. When she saw the picture, she said, "I have seen my death." [5]

It was there that Grubbe assembled the first x-ray machine in Chicago in 1896, and that same year, used it to treat a woman with recurrent carcinoma of the breast (disputed).
