The company was founded in September 1990 [2] by Jeffrey Seaman and his father Morty Seaman after they sold Seaman's Furniture. [3]
Puerto Rico-Sheraton Hotel, 1960s. The hotel was designed by architects Osvaldo L. Toro and Miguel Ferrer and opened on October 4, 1963 as the Puerto Rico-Sheraton Hotel. [1] Directly on the beach in Condado, it boasted an Olympic-sized swimming pool. [2]

Meliá was the first hotel in Puerto Rico to offer a telephone line and a private bathroom in each room. [ 21 ] [ 22 ] As the business grew, so did the hotel. It saw major expansions in 1915, 1940 and 1960.

After it was built, the government leased the hotel to the Hilton Corp. on a 20-year lease. [6] The hotel was the first in Puerto Rico to offer radios in every room and individually controlled air conditioners. [4]
In 1995, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company sold both the Parador and an adjacent 24-acre (97,000 m 2) property, however in December 2001, the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico handed down a decision nullifying the sale and returned the Parador's ownership to the Tourism Co.
