Mentone Girls' Secondary College boasts four houses; Jackson, Kenny, Melba, and Mackellar. When enrolled at the school, students are assigned a House which they will remain at for the entirety of the student's time at the college. Boarders and students of primary school age have been phased out; the final primary class being in 1978. The school has been single sex (girls) for many decades. In the 1930s the school's name was changed to Kilbreda College, the name coming from the Gaelic Cill – church or community and Breda – Brigid.

The campus has around 250 students, and is administered by the De La Salle Brothers, a teaching order of Christian Brothers. As of the start of 2024, the Campus Director is Trent Collins. At the beginning of 2021, St James College was amalgamated into St Bede's College in Mentone, operating as a dedicated middle years campus.
She began to sing from the time she could speak, and learned to play the recorder and guitar at grade school. Excelling also in sports and academically, at age 11 she won a scholarship to attend Mentone Girls Grammar School. Here she learned to play the clarinet and trumpet and studied music theory while continuing with classical guitar.
