Solon Township is a civil township of Kent County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 6,496 at the 2020 census, [3] a notable increase from 5,974 at the 2010 census. [4] It is part of the Grand Rapids metropolitan area and is located about 15 miles (24 km) north of the city of Grand Rapids.
It was first settled in the 1860s and named for Solon, Ohio, from where many of the settlers had migrated. [6] A post office operated from February 3, 1870 until June 15, 1909. [12] The city of Traverse City is to the east and the Traverse City post office with ZIP code 49684 also serves portions of southern and eastern Solon Township. [13]
