It is located southwest of West Union off State Route 136. [2] The original 1805-built portion of the house is a stone, three-bay by two-bay, one-and-a-half-story structure. [2] It was home of Thomas Kirker, an immigrant from Ireland who became Ohio's second governor during 1807–08. [2]
A former variant name was Cochranton, [1] after Col. William Cochran, the original owner of the town site. [2] A post office called Cochranton was established in 1829, the name was changed to Meeker in 1908, and the post office closed in 1943. [3]

West Union Presbyterian Church is a historic congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in the village of West Union on the southern edge of Ohio.Formed at the turn of the nineteenth century, it worships in an early nineteenth-century building constructed by a future governor of Kentucky, and it counted among its earliest members a governor of Ohio.
