The provinces of Vietnam are subdivided into second-level administrative units, namely districts (Vietnamese: huyện), provincial cities (thành phố trực thuộc tỉnh), and district-level towns (thị xã).
The town was founded on 2 June 1994 from the split of the district of Châu Thành into the districts of Châu Đức, Tân Thành, and Bà Rịa.
