Rosa 'La France' is a pink rose cultivar found in France in 1867 by the rosarian Jean-Baptiste André Guillot (1827–1893). It is generally accepted to be the first hybrid tea rose (recognised as a class in the 1880s). Its introduction is therefore also considered the birth of the modern rose. [2]

The cultivar flushes in a chronological blooming pattern throughout its local season, starting in late spring until fall. The long-stemmed rose flowers are long lasting and showy and make excellent cut flowers, though they "blue" badly with age. The rose bush reaches 75 to 200 cm (30 to 79 in) height, and a diameter of 60 to 120 cm (24 to 47 in).
Blooms are very large, with an average diameter of 6 in (15.24 cm), with 26 to 40 petals. Flowers are a bright pink, with little fading as the blooms age, but will burn in the sun. The rose has a strong, sweet fragrance. [2] Blooms open from large, ovoid buds, are high-centered, borne mostly solitary, and have a cupped bloom form.
Walter E. Lammerts (1904-1996) was an author, horticulturist, and rose breeder. He earned a BS and PhD in horticulture from the University of California, Berkeley. In 1935, he was hired by John Armstrong, owner of Armstrong Nurseries, and established the company's rose development program. He introduced 46 new rose varieties between 1940 and 1981.
Rosa 'Royal Highness' is a light pink hybrid tea rose cultivar. Bred by Herbert Swim and Weeks Rose Growers in 1961, the rose was named an All-America Rose Selections winner in 1963. The rose was introduced into the United States by Star Roses in 1962. The stock parents are the hybrid tea roses, 'Virgo' and 'Mme A. Meilland' ('Peace'). [1]
In 1944, it was included in the All-America Rose Selection. [5] In 1976, it was the first cultivar to be granted the highest award a rose can be granted when it was selected as World's Favorite Rose and included into the Rose Hall of Fame. 'Spiced Coffee' is a medium-tall upright, hybrid tea rose, 3 to 5 ft (75–120 cm) in height, with a 2 to 3 ft (60-91 cm) plant spread. The rose has a large, double (17-25 petals), cupped bloom form. It blooms in flushes from spring to fall. 'Spiced Coffee' has a strong lemon fragrance and has a bloom color of pale beige with pink edges.
