The Instituto Tecnológico de Celaya had lobbied for a radio station since the late 1960s, with the authorization being awarded in 1974. However, the station had no equipment. It was not until April 14, 1978, as part of ITC's 20th anniversary celebrations, when XEITC-AM 1200 hit the air for the first time. The transmitter was donated by XEFG-AM.
Broadcasting with 250 watts, XERE was the first station in Salvatierra, joined less than two years later by a competitor, XEFAC-AM on 1380 kHz. In the 1970s and 1980s, it increased its power, and in 1994, it received its FM combo station; by this time, XERE had moved from Salvatierra to Celaya. The station was sold to Grupo ACIR not long after.
Impulsora de Radiodifusión, S.A., received a concession for XEZN-AM on 780 kHz in 1974. The FM station was added in 1994, originally broadcasting on 99.3 but later moved. The concessionaire was Radio XHOZ-FM since 1996 until 2016, when it changed its name to FM Celaya. Impulsora de Radiodifusión owned XHOZ-FM in Querétaro until 2006.
XHAF began as XEAF-AM, receiving its concession on June 28, 1979. It was owned by Enrique Bermúdez Olvera and broadcast as a daytimer on 1580 kHz. It was sold in the 1990s and migrated to FM in 2012. In 2015, XHAF moved to a new transmitter facility. The previous one was in Ojo Seco.
