Hoshie Tenma (天馬星江, Tenma Hoshie) - Deceased wife of Dr. Tenma and mother of Tobio Tenma. Hoshie was the model for Astro Boy's robot mother. Dr. Boyer (ボイラー, Boirā) is a surgeon at Kuta Baro Hospital. He and another doctor were to join Tenma for Mayor Roedecker's surgery. Dr. Kenzo Tenma is a young Japanese brain surgeon, working at Eisler Memorial Hospital in Düsseldorf, West Germany. Tenma is dissatisfied with the political bias of the hospital in treating patients, and seizes the chance to change things after a massacre brings fraternal twins Johan and Anna Liebert into the hospital.
After several robot design failures, Dr. Tenma created Astro Boy from a suggestion from his son, Tobio. Dr. Tenma zealously worked on creating a robot that would be able to act and behave like a real human. In his search to obtain his goal, Dr. Tenma neglected Tobio, forgetting his promise to take his son to the amusement park.
