The Bay of Fundy (French: Baie de Fundy) is a bay between the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, with a small portion touching the U.S. state of Maine. It is an arm of the Gulf of Maine. Its tidal range is the highest in the world. [1] The name is probably a corruption of the French word fendu, meaning 'split'. [2]
Fundy National Park is a national park of Canada located on the Bay of Fundy, near the village of Alma, New Brunswick. It was created on April 10, 1946 and officially opened on July 29, 1950. Chignecto is derived from the Mi'kmaq language, but its exact etymology is unclear.It may be from Sigunikt 'foot cloth', possibly alluding to a Mi'kmaq legend. [3] Or it may be from Siknikt, 'drainage place'; [citation needed] the latter (as Siknikt or Signigt, in longer form Sikniktewa'kik or Signigtewa'gi) is today the name of the Mi'kma'ki district in which the bay is located.
