Tanjiro and Nezuko also meet Tamayo and Yushiro, two demons free from Muzan's control. They ally to develop a cure for Nezuko, though it will require Tanjiro to supply Tamayo with blood samples from the Twelve Kizuki, the twelve most powerful demons under Muzan's command, split into the six Lower Ranks and the six Upper Ranks.
While Nezuko protects Kazumi and the girl, Tanjiro jumps into the swamp to defeat two of the clones. Nezuko battles the last clone until Tanjiro corners it. He asks the demon about Muzan Kibutsuji, the original demon and the one capable of transforming people, but he refuses to speak, terrified by Muzan's previous threats.

Tatsuhiko Katayama, their editor, was worried about the one-shot crusade being too dark for the young demographic and asked Gotouge if they could write another type of the main character who would be "brighter".
