In the original manga and 1969 anime Dororo's father, Hibukuro, was wounded by a samurai official (Itachi in the 2019 anime) and later died. Dororo’s mother, Ojiya, froze to death (starvation in the 2019 anime) while fleeing in the snow, but before she died she tattooed a map on Dororo's back to locate money hidden by Hibukuro at Bone Cape.
