The farm was established by Alexander Gilfillan in the 1760s. His family was one of the first to settle in the future township, growing corn, hay, sheep and cattle. His grandson, John II, built the current farm complex from 1857 to 1868. The last building, the barn, was built in a community barn raising. [1]

Robert D. Orr was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, [2] where his family was vacationing, on November 17, 1917, the last of the three children of Samuel Lowery and Louise Dunkerson Orr. His father was an industrialist with interests in many companies whose holdings were centralized in the Orr Iron Company.
Orr was born Benjamin Orzechowski in Lakewood in 1947 and grew up in Parma, attending Valley Forge High School in the 1960s, where my future wife would graduate more than 20 years later.

Alexander Dalrymple Orr (November 6, 1761 – June 21, 1835) was an American farmer and politician from Maysville, Kentucky. Orr was born in Alexandria, Virginia and in 1782 moved to Bourbon County, KY, which then remained a part of Virginia. [1] His uncle was William Grayson, who served as a U.S. senator and delegate for Virginia.
