Irene Chou (Chinese: 周綠雲; pinyin: Zhou Luyun) (January 31, 1924 – July 1, 2011) was a Chinese artist, one of the most influential exponents of the New Ink Painting movement in Hong Kong. A leader in the New Ink Painting Movement, Chou was at the forefront of reinventing traditional ink paintings into a contemporary art form.
He was the son of the famous Chinese painter Ma Yuan, [3] from whom he learned the art of painting. [ 4 ] One of his best known paintings is Night Outing with Candles , which depicts a gentleman sitting in the doorway of a pavilion, facing four pairs of tall candles amongst flowering crab apple trees.
