Strike Fighter Squadron 146 (VFA-146) also known as the "Blue Diamonds" is a United States Navy operational fleet strike fighter squadron based at Naval Air Station Lemoore California. They fly the F/A-18E Super Hornet and are attached to Carrier Air Wing 17 (CVW 17), deployed aboard USS Nimitz.
Carrier Air Wing 14 was established at Naval Air Station Miramar, CA as Carrier Air Group 101 on 1 August 1950 to receive United States Navy Reserve squadrons which were activated for participation in the Korean War. It made its first deployment aboard USS Kearsarge. [1] On 4 February 1952, CVG-101 was redesignated Carrier Air Group 14 (CVG-14).
The wing, based at Naval Air Station Lemoore in California, is also home to the West Coast F-35C Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) VFA-125, which is the only F-35C FRS in the US Navy. It trains pilots in the jet before they get to be assigned to operational fleet squadrons.

VA-86 was flying a mix of A-4Bs and A-4Cs, as the squadron was transitioning to the A-4C. In April–May 1963, VA-86 provided A-4C detachments aboard Atlantic Fleet anti-submarine carriers USS Essex, USS Randolph and USS Wasp. The aircraft were equipped with AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles to provide the carriers with anti-air warfare capability.

After its OIF cruise in 2003, VFA-14 conducted Air Wing training at NAS Fallon and made the maiden deployment with USS Ronald Reagan in 2004, the cruise took them from Virginia to California around South America. After work-ups in 2004 they deployed for a 2005 cruise, supporting OIF and flying over 2,100 sorties and over 4,300 flight hours.
