The constitution is largely written in gender-neutral terms. Among its important aspects: Internalization of the people's sovereign right and right to autonomy and self-rule, while maintaining freedom, sovereignty, territorial integrity, national unity, independence and dignity of Nepal.
Fundamental rights and duties in Nepal are the basic human rights mentioned in the Part III of Constitution of Nepal for every Nepalese citizen. This allows a Nepalese citizen to live a life with dignity. Article 16 to Article 46 of the Nepalese constitution guarantees 31 fundamental rights to Nepalese people.

It was established in the year 2000 as a statutory body under the Human Rights Commission Act 1997 (2053 BS). The Interim Constitution of Nepal 2007 (2063 BS) made the NHRC a constitutional body.
