P&O European Ferries (formerly Townsend Thoresen), a division of P&O Ferries, was a ferry company which operated in the English Channel from 1987 after the Herald of Free Enterprise disaster, when Townsend Thoresen was renamed P&O European Ferries, until 1999 when the Portsmouth Operations became P&O Portsmouth and the Dover Operations were merged with Stena Line AB to make P&O Stena Line.
P&O originally established ferry services in the late 1960s in the North Sea between Hull and Rotterdam and the English Channel between Southampton and Le Havre. In the late 1970s P&O was affected by a reduction in traditional shipping activities which saw the sale of a number of its businesses and assets.
North Sea Ferries was a ferry company which was jointly owned by P&O and Nedlloyd. [1] It operated from 1965 until 1996, when it was merged into P&O Operations (P&O North Sea Ferries), [2] it had routes from Hull to Rotterdam (Europort) and Zeebrugge. P&O North Sea Ferries was then merged with P&O Ferries in 2003. [3]

The ship was launched as MS Norbank in 1993 and was delivered by October 1993 to Nordzee Verdi Stone BV, the Netherlands and started operating between Hull and Rotterdam for North Sea Ferries. The ship transferred to P&O North Sea Ferries in 1996. On the UK side ferries needed to pass locks to berth in King George Dock, and both ships Norstar and Norland were designed as large as possible for the locks in 1974. From launch until 1987 she sailed the Hull-Rotterdam route and from 1987 until 2001 she sailed on the Hull-Zeebrugge route.

The MS Finbo Cargo is a roll-on/roll-off passenger ferry that was previously called the European Endeavour which was owned and operated by P&O Ferries until May 2019. Eckerö Line purchased the ship from P&O in 2019 and is expected to take delivery in June 2019 and renamed her MS Finbo Cargo.
