The Reverend Jesse R. Zeigler Residence is a Frank Lloyd Wright house in Frankfort, Kentucky. The Zeigler house is the only Frank Lloyd Wright structure built in Kentucky during the lifetime of the famous architect. The design came from a chance meeting between Zeigler and Wright while both were traveling to Europe in late October 1909.
Development first began during the 1850s when the Louisville and Lexington turnpike (now Frankfort Avenue) and the Louisville and Frankfort railroad were built through the area. In 1853 a 38-acre (150,000 m 2 ) fair grounds were built and were used to host the Agriculture and Technology fair, which had 20,000 visitors on one day in 1857.
On the eastern side of town, Louisville Road carries US 31W, US 68, and KY 80 east and then northeast, where US 68 and KY 80 split off to the east just east of Bristow. US 31W passes within 0.5 miles (0.80 km) of an entrance to Mammoth Cave National Park near Park City , after crossing I-65 again, this time without direct access to the freeway.
In southwestern Louisville, US 31W is called Dixie Highway. It is the major commercial street in this area. In Downtown Louisville at Second Street, US 31E and US 31W rejoin to form US 31 and immediately crosses the Ohio River on the Clark Memorial Bridge only traveling 0.912 miles (1.468 km) before the route crosses into Indiana. The landscaping design for the mansion was developed and implemented by William Speed [5] of Louisville. In 1980, Kentucky's First Lady, Phyllis George Brown, began a fundraising effort called Save the Mansion, designed to fund the restoration of the interior and furnish the building.
