Princess Elisabeth of Hesse and by Rhine (Elisabeth Marie Alice Viktoria; 11 March 1895 – 16 November 1903) was a German Hessian and Rhenish child princess, the only daughter of Ernst Ludwig, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine, and his first wife, Princess Victoria Melita of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
Elisabeth was born on 1 November 1864 as the second child of Ludwig IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine, and Princess Alice, daughter of Queen Victoria. [1] Though she came from one of the oldest and most noble houses in Germany, Elisabeth and her family lived a rather modest life by royal standards.
At the time of her death, Irene was the last surviving child of Princess Alice and Prince Louis of Hesse.
