In 1881, the "Iron Pier" was constructed, but was heavily damaged by a storm and tugboat collision in 1901, leading to its removal in 1908. In 1913, the "Amusement/Fishing Pier" opened at 950 feet, although in 1945 a hurricane destroyed the end part of it.
