Mason County is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia.As of the 2020 census, the population was 25,453. [1] Its county seat and largest city is Point Pleasant. [2] The county was founded in 1804 and named for George Mason, [3] delegate to the U.S. Constitutional Convention.

Point Pleasant was the final home of Confederate Brigadier-General John McCausland, the next-to-last Confederate General to die. He died at his farm at Grimm's Landing on January 23, 1927, and is buried in nearby Henderson. Karl Probst, born in Point Pleasant, was an automotive engineer credited in 1940 with the design of the Jeep.

New Haven is a town in Mason County, West Virginia, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 1,485 at the 2020 census. [2] It is part of the Point Pleasant, WV–OH Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named after New Haven, Connecticut, the native home of the local mine proprietors. [5]
