Hey there - I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask, but I have a question for your about a knife that I just inherited from my grandfather. I read your paper (very well done) and this is what I have gathered about this piece: - It is a post-1979 model with a "Banner Etch" and "Eye over Germany" tang stamp.
If someone actually complied a resource like that, it wouldn't be accurate or useful at all. There's often a wide spread in how much a particular knife goes for and hype raises and lowers values quickly. There are too many new models being introduced to the market, too. The vast majority of knives out there are both rare and depreciate quickly.
Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values by Bernard Levine is a good starting point, Big Book of Pocket Knives: Identification & Values is another decent book. Selling to a private individual unless the knife is long out of production and rare expect 75% of what new sells for (not necessarily 75% of retail).
I don't have it but there is a book titled, "Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values." That book lists values based upon characteristics and makers; it doesn't list each available knife model. A.G. Russell used to have a small pamphlet/booklet with values for specific knives based upon actual resale prices in the market.

what would a used '68 model be worth, still w/original sheath? i got it new in '69, still have the sales slip, $39.95 plus tax, a lot of $$ in those days, but have gotten 30+ years of service out of it, and its still quite servicable minus a few scratches/scuffs/etc. it was cutting edge in its day, still not a bad choice for some things imho. i ...
I own a good amount of knives but my most prized are Gil Hibben's. One being the Raptor Fantasy Fighter, Model UC750, Number 0415, signed sheath, original box and other cardboard pieces and plastics. I am wondering how much it is worth. The other Hibben knife is the Double Shadow Fantasy Knife...
Thank you both, for your opinions. As I stated in my initial post, it is a 6 inch blade. This particular knife is at least 40+ years old. My friend Chic Gaylord (holster maker and author of HANDGUNNERS GUIDE c.1960) purchased it back in the early-mid 1960's as a Christmas gift for my Uncle, an NYPD Detective, for hunting.
Yea it is an old thread. The "J" on you knife is a date code. Western started doing this in 1977 and Coleman/Western continued it. The letters used start with "A" for 1977 and go on to "0" for 1991 when Camillus bought the rights to Western at auction. Camillus discontinued the use of date codes. Your knife was made in 1986.
