Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan is the actual westernmost station of the Long Island Rail Road and its busiest station. The system currently has 126 stations on eleven rail lines called "branches". Rockville Centre station was originally built by the South Side Railroad of Long Island on September 23, 1867 and remodeled in July 1881. The commuter train cars suffered damage and 33 passengers were injured, four of them seriously injured. In March 2010, the station was renamed Atlantic Terminal after a six-year reconstruction project, [12] during which trains continued to operate. In 2014, the LIRR announced that service from Babylon and Hicksville would go directly to Atlantic Terminal during New York Islanders games at Barclays Center.
