Krishnaji Howlaji Ara (16 April 1914 – 30 June 1985 [1]) was an Indian painter and is seen as the first contemporary Indian painter to meticulously use the female nude as a subject. [2] He was a part of the Progressive Artists' Group in Bombay and was a founder of the Artists' Centre in Mumbai .

The Umbrellas, Japan–USA, 1984–91 was a 1991 environmental artwork in which artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude erected yellow and blue umbrella structures in California (between Gorman and Grapevine [1]) and Japan, respectively.
Khanna's first painting was sold in the late 1940s for Rs 225 to Dr. Homi Bhabha who was then collecting works for the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. [7] Titled Spring Nude, the painting was sold by M. F. Husain with whom Khanna had left the painting before the latter had departed from Mumbai. [8] In 1953, Khanna was transferred to Madras.
