The university's main campus is located in the western part of the city of Gulu, adjacent to the offices and studios of Radio Pacis Gulu, approximately 5.5 kilometres (3 mi), by road, west of the city centre. The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) is a multi-campus university offering courses at certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The main campus of the university is in Mbale , about 222 kilometres (138 mi) north-east of Kampala , Uganda's capital and largest city.
The university was established in 2014 by private Ugandan individuals. [3] It is accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education. It is a co-educational institution that offers certificate, diploma, bachelors, postgraduate diploma and masters degree courses. [8] The highest supervisory body of the university is the board of trustees.
ASUL was founded in 2008 by the Diocese of Lango of the Church of Uganda. Although the founders and administrators of the university are Christians, the university admits students without regard to nationality, religious beliefs, or ethnicity. The first class of 90 undergraduate students was admitted in January 2009. [5]
