The Houma (/ ˈ h oʊ m ə /) are a historic Native American people of Louisiana on the east side of the Red River of the South.The United Houma Nation Inc., who identify as descendants of the Houma people, have been recognized by the state as a tribe since 1972, but are not recognized by the federal government.
It was named after the native Houma people, who originally occupied this area of Louisiana. [2] [3] The complex, containing eight buildings and one structure, and the 10 acres (4.0 ha) they rest upon, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 27, 1980. [1] [2]

[4] In the fall of 2017, the 9th grade was scheduled to be moved from Houma Junior High School to Terrebonne High.
