State Road 589 (SR 589), also known as the Veterans Expressway and Suncoast Parkway, is a controlled-access toll road near the Florida Gulf Coast. [3] [4] Maintained and operated by Florida's Turnpike Enterprise, this 68-mile (109 km) transportation corridor extends from State Road 60 in Tampa, north to State Road 44 near Lecanto.
In 2007, the road was widened to six lanes between Moon Lake Road and SR 589 (Suncoast Parkway), but most of the development taking place here has been residential so far. On the Southeast corner of the Suncoast Parkway interchange are a Florida State Police barracks and a Florida Division of Forestry fire tower.
The road was built in 1994, but was reassigned as SR 568 in 2001 when SR 589 moved to the new Suncoast Parkway. It connects the aforementioned SR 589 to SR 597. SR 568 is on the segment of the Veterans Expressway that was intended to be extended to Lutz, Florida in the vicinity of the northern interchange with I-75 and I-275. [2] [3]

It briefly turns east again as it reaches the intersection of Rock Crusher Road, but curves back to the southeast roughly a mile later. The new interchange with the Suncoast Parkway Extension is built just northwest of where the divider begins again near the intersection of County Road 491 in Lecanto, after which the road turns east again.
Later it runs along the southern edge of the Southern Woods Golf Club before encountering a much wider power line right-of-way, then enters the Citrus Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest, part of which will include a bridge for the Suncoast Parkway with no access. Along the way, the road makes sharper curves towards the southeast.
